CFC Chelsea Piers strike gold at Needham Tournament
by posted 06/02/2014

Memebers of the Chelsea Piers CFC U-13 team pose for a team photo with the Needham Memorial Day Tournament trophy.

It was a banner Memorial Day for Chelsea Piers Connecticut, as the Connecticut Football Club Chelsea Piers Girls U-13 team traveled up to Needham, Mass. and captured the Needham Memorial Day Soccer Tournament.

The team put on an impressive performance during the tournament, including allowing just one goal throughout the entire 300 minutes of play.

After defeating Alliance FC of New Hampshire, FC Stars of Massachusetts, and New England Football Club Central in the first round of the tournament, CFC Chelsea Piers moved on to the semifinals where they faced Alliance FC of N.H. once again.

CFC Chelsea Piers won the second match-up 2-0, setting them up for the final game against the GPS Lady Cavaliers Elite, which they also won,  3-0.

“We could not be happier with the girls’ performance in the tournament,” said head coach Ross Stride. “Every player on the team has been training extremely hard and it’s great to see their dedication and teamwork pay off.”

The town of Greenwich is well-represented on the CFC Chelsea Piers premier team. Samantha Sias and Sophia Ruelle are from Old Greenwich, while Nicole Huber is also a Greenwich resident.

The group of Samantha Page, Lily Gubernick and Keri Gallagher are from Stamford, while Libby Markham, Libby Branca, Ellen Harnish, Anna Edwards, Anna Fox, Sophia Cortalessi, Hannah Mathew and Nathalie Bravo are from Darien.

Olivia Cosco and Kendall Patten are from New Canaan, while Mikayla Fosina and Tara Hufnagel reside in Norwalk. Rounding out the team is Sierra Clarke from Stratford.

As the longest standing soccer club in Connecticut, CFC is widely recognized as the most competitive and successful soccer program throughout the region.

Since partnering in May of 2013, CFC and Chelsea Piers have created the most innovative services for young soccer players in this area. CFC Chelsea Piers aims to develop the individual to his or her highest potential, resulting in teams that successfully compete at the highest level.

“When we partnered with CFC, our goal was to bring Westchester and lower Fairfield County boys and girls the most unique and competitive soccer training experience,” said Dave Flower, Director of Soccer at Chelsea Piers Connecticut. “By combining CPCT’s state-of-the art indoor facility with a top coaching staff, plus elite brand-name recognition and entrance into the region’s best tournaments, the program has attracted dedicated athletes that are committed to the sport. We knew the combination could create great results, and it’s exciting to see the program’s success.”

Why tryout for CFC?

Take a quick look below at the success we've had winning championships, building a top-class coaching staff, and getting players into top-level college soccer programs.

For more details on our upcoming tryouts and to register, please CLICK HERE

Championships

The 2013-2014 season was another successful year for CFC. Yesterday, CFC won 6 State Championships (3 boys and 3 girls) - bringing CFC's State Cup Championship total to 51(if anyone has any pictures of our winners, please email us at  ). In the ECNL and NPL Girls Leagues, CFC went 12-0-3 against our ECNL Connecticut rival, SoccerPlus, and all 4 Girls ECNL teams have qualified for the National Championships in Seattle. On the boys side, our 4 CFC United teams will once again be participating in the NPL regional qualifiers and we hope to be well-represented at Nationals as we were last year.
